Jumpoff 2009

Lots of great stuff for everybody today... Welcome to Austin, all you out-of-towners; I don't want to hear anybody complaining about the heat. We had to earn this - it was miserable here the last few days...

First up, new material from Filthy Dukes. Honestly, I was super excited for the when "This Rhythm" first dropped, but that excitement was somewhat tempered by the presence of "Tupac Robot Club Rock." The album as a whole? It feels a lot less TR and a lot more TRCR... It's not bad, but it just doesn't quite live up to that first track. A lot of great remix material has come out of this one already (Mr. Fred Falke's foray comes to mind in particular), and I'm looking forward to hearing some re-interpretations of what they've laid down on Nonsense In The Dark.

The Thermals have a new album just about ready to drop...and it's a pretty typical affair. Now We Can See doesn't quite live up to The Body, The Blood, The Machine in my book, but it's a great record nonetheless. Always worth a look. Cats will be in town for SXSW this week as well. [More samples + SXSW dates on the Myspace!]

Roy G And The Biv are a little group out of Denton, and they make nice noise. I hadn't heard of them before Brett dropped this little gem in my inbox...but I'm feelin' it. SXSW dates below the track.

MF Doom is back, y'all. Except it's DOOM now. I dunno, new monicker is a bit blunted and silly...but dude still has it. Born Like This is no Madvillainy, but it's a nice slice of lukewarm nostalgia. Wait for the break in "Gazzillion Ear" - so so nice. Madvillainy 2 soon...?

Not that there was really ever a question, but A-Trak brings it with his Fabriclive album, the 45th installation of the series. There's no good way to give a "taste" of this, so I'll spare you the review except to say that, yes, "it's very good." Pick it up!

A-Trak - Do Dat [Raffertie]

Yeah, A-Trak is in Austin this week too...
