Remember The Time

Don, thank you for tastefully reworking my favorite MJ track. RIP Michael Jackson.

Don Diablo Finds His Roots

The inbox is filling up this week, for reals. I'm definitely feeling a closet-cleaning coming on in the next week or so...but for now, here's a track that actually caught my eye. Don Diablo just put out a rework of a bar favorite by The Roots, and the track sounds as fresh as ever. No dramatic changes here, but Don definitely makes it bump a bit harder for the night-times. Much better than playing the same old hash again...
Don Diablo vs The Roots - The seed 3.0

Just one thing; the submission only included Diablo's Twitter link. There was no Myspace link. I don't about the rest of you fools, but I don't even believe in Twitter. Don't do your artist a disservice by trying to filter interest towards a singular point of promotion...or by forgetting to include every single link possible in a promotional send out. Seriously, y'all - I care about reading this stuff. If I didn't, all my posts would consist of a picture (maybe) and a link. Not hating, just saying. Honestly, I'm just sick of all the Twitter hype. There will never be a Sound of Air Twitter, and I won't read yours.

Lights Over LA After NYC

A bunch of things, the most important of which were Thieves Like Us, Designer Drugs and Major Lazer. I had a crazy weekend, literally am behind almost two days on sleep, and have work in the morning. (...but it was worth it!) I may or may not write a bit more about the experience over the next week or so, but let's just say the city was a lot friendlier than I remembered it. Before I forget; the new Major Lazer record is going to be huge this Summer. You owe it to yourselves to cop this asap - do not sleep. The crowd at SOB's was a bit lame though; sort of made me feel like I was in Austin...at a Passion Pit/Ghostland/[insert pop-hyped band here] show. No - it is not o.k. for you to violate my personal space with your bi-monthly-washed "hair." <3 Seanie-P, Webster Hall (srsly), Beauty Bar, SOB's and NYC; see y'all in July! (Anybody else going to All Points West this year...?)

Upon my return, I was pleasantly surprised by LIGHTSOVERLA with another little rework. Their last one was a big hit on here, so I was understandably excited about this one. Good work, y'all. (I know this might be a little repetitive in light of my last post; I felt that this one was worth posting, even despite the Cold Blank rework I put up last week. Deal.)

Is this 200, yeah?

I started this blog in January, 2008 - this is my 200th post. I've gotta be honest with everybody; I really didn't expect to still be working on this after so long. Despite my almost bi-weekly posting habits as of late, I really enjoy having this little outlet to showcase music and artists I feel are worth everybody's time. Thanks so much for reading! Now for a few clerical things:

-- Stop producing remixes of N.A.S.A. tracks, and definitely stop sending them to me. Every single one of them has been deleted with extreme prejudice because they're WEAK, and it's becoming too much of a bum-out.

-- Is anyone familiar with Google's completely bogus DMCA procedures? I got a couple notices last year, and was pretty amazed at how opaque they were about the entire thing. As far as I can tell, they basically create the illusion of proper recourse, and bully you into not taking any action by failing to tell you what materials were allegedly infringing. The actual language of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act itself, however, calls for administrators (Google) to make a "good faith" effort to notify their users of all this information. Google appears to be in violation...but they have absolutely no point of contact. Thoughts? Anybody that can help me maintain my URL and move to Wordpress? I attempted it, and I know it's "super easy" or whatever, but it almost made my brain explode.

-- If anybody is on Xbox Live, hit me up; SoundOfAir

The inbox has been in a bit of a slump lately; perpetual disappointment. Gobs of great albums and material have been leaking...but my moral compass (and DMCA-averse gut) tell me better than to post any of it. Where have all the cowboys gone? Big ups to Cold Blank for brightening my afternoon with a bit of love.
Does It Offend You, Yeah? - "We Are Rockstars" (Cold Blank Remix)

Also, a bit of love from Lucio of Database. Hey Champ appears on this one as well. Be sure to hit up their Myspace for the second volume in their Uglyedits series; serious quantity, seriously quality. Totally free! I read an article today about how Mark Cuban very nearly bought up Napster back in the day, and had he done so, he would have saved the music industry from itself. It's the little things in life that make you smile; Cuban brings many things to mind, but benevolence isn't really one of them. His argument, however, is spot-on.

Some late-breaking noise. I've never heard of Hashbang SpaceStar before, but I'm genuinely glad this one didn't just get shuffled into my trashcan. (Seriously; y'all came way close). Really great, lo-fi-electronica stuff here. I like the way the vocal tracks sound like they're racing to keep up with the master tempo of the track (love to Ableton users; this HAD to come from there). Definitely check this out.

Deadmau5 Dreams

New stuff from Deadmau5 today. I'll admit; the original didn't grab me as much as I wanted it to, which was a bit of a disappointment as I've slowly been coming around to Deadmau5 stuff myself. (I originally sort of wrote his stuff off as "too trancey" until I actually listened and realized I liked most all of it...) Nonetheless, this one ought to have a space in your e-crates. Deadmau5 come back to Austin - I'm sorry about SXSW!
Deadmau5 - "All You Ever Want" (All My Dreams Mix)

Pristine Blusters hail from Brazil and (like so many of their countrymen these days) know how to move floors. For reals; if I had a dime for every time I received a pleasant surprise from Brazil in the inbox... Don't sleep!

Archangel is Nick Webber, a "young man with a strong will and a warped imagination." Right! "Square One" came to me from out of the blue back while I was in the finals cave, so it took me a while to sift through the backlog and find it. That being said, I'm really glad I did. There are too many fun references and influences running underneath all of his music to mention now (so I just included the above video...) but look him up! Oh right - I realize at the end of the day it's really all just more electro-pop...just 'cause it tastes sweet doesn't mean you have to write it off. 2009 is good times!
Archangel - "Square One"

NROTB have been circulating the blogs more and more in early 2009. I didn't much care for their rework of "Whatchadoin'" (which garnered them a lot of attention AND a nod from NASA themselves), so I wasn't really expecting to do a post on the e-mail that was sent out on it. "Miam Miam" is an original and was included as an added treat on the end of that e-mail...and yeah. 8-Bit love.
NROTB - "Miam Miam"

I was listening to a lot of the Fabric/Fabriclive releases during my studies over the past month, and came across this little gem from Luciano's Fabric 41 release. Nothing extremely special here, but as I've been somewhat let-down by the caliber of M83 reworks that have come down the pipe over the years, I thought I'd put it up. It sounds like he was just doing this live as part of the mix itself; does it really matter? Part of your post-bar soundtrack. Honestly, the entire Fabric series should be.
M83 - "In Church" (Luciano Remix)

Great Northern - so familiar, and yet, I don't think I've ever heard y'all before... I'm sorry I wasn't listening in time to catch you in Austin...less than a week ago. Love the tunes; thanks! (No seriously, I hate when this happens...shame on me.)
Great Northern - "Story"
Great Northern - "Houses"

As if this post wasn't long enough already...another new one from Cold Blank. Gaspar and Na$ty are really starting to hit their stride - don't stop!
Surkin - "Radio Fireworks" (Cold Blank's 808 Remix)

...for a laugh, check out the top-searches under my Lijit widget. Let's get it to number one!

Fine For Now

Grizzly Bear - "Fine For Now"

The new Grizzly Bear album, "Veckatimest," drops May 26. The record is gorgeous; grab it! For those in and around the Austin area, they'll be at The Parish on June 16 with Here We Go Magic. I would post a purchase link for tickets...but it already sold out. Anybody want to donate a ticket or two...?

In other (actually) uplifting news, I'm through with my first year of law school. 2L-status right here, y'all. Time to make the most of this Summer...

DYWMB

Fun, friendly fire from Morsy, just in time for the weekend. Right around 48 hours, my friends - a return to the living.
The Human League - "Don't You Want Me" (Morsy Mix)
Montell Jordon - "This Is How We Do It" (Morsy Mix)

Love to Attorney Street (oh the irony) for this one.
